A major financial institution’s Marketing and Communication (MarCom) department is continuing an agile transformation launched last year. Its self-organising, multidisciplinary squads use an agile operating model to plan and deliver marketing campaigns and other communication work with greater autonomy and a shorter time to market. As a senior Agile Coach, you will apply Scrum and related agile practices in a non-IT environment, while coaching senior management and embedding sustainable change across the department.
The mission
The department has introduced clusters with self-organising squads, supported by roles such as product owners, scrum masters and chapter leads. The work forms part of a wider enterprise agile model, adapted to the needs of MarCom rather than software delivery. Your work will help create consistent ways of working across squads while preserving the department’s ability to deliver varied campaigns and communications outputs.
Your day-to-day scope combines observation, coaching, facilitation and operating-model design. You will assess team maturity, participate in operational meetings and ceremonies, tailor practices and documentation, and advise leadership on behaviours and governance. You will connect coaching, training and change management so that agile principles become part of daily planning, collaboration and decision-making, not only a set of meetings.
Your responsibilities
- Assess the agile maturity of squads and clusters, then select practical techniques that fit their scope, experience and delivery needs.
- Coach senior management, product owners, scrum masters and chapter leads to improve decision-making, role clarity and adoption of agile behaviours.
- Adapt the target operating model to align governance, collaboration and accountability with agile concepts across the MarCom department.
- Facilitate agile ceremonies and group sessions, using team dynamics to resolve blockers and support continuous learning.
- Lead training, mentoring and individual coaching as part of the change management approach, enabling cultural embedding in daily work.
- Evaluate practices with agile roles and fellow coaches, then implement documented improvements to the operating model.
