A life insurance organisation's Business Reporting & Data Engineering team supports risk, control and performance management through commercial and technical reporting on life insurance products. The Senior Data Analyst will turn raw, complex data into reliable datasets, Power BI reports and analysis using Databricks, Python, SQL and SAS.
The mission
Within the reporting environment, the team maintains data quality and completeness while producing dashboards, periodic reports and analyses for management, internal departments and the bank distribution network. These outputs inform product development, risk oversight and operational decisions. The landscape combines Databricks, Power BI, Python, SQL, SAS, MS Office 365 and relational databases. The emphasis is on consistent, reusable reporting rather than one-off analysis.
Your scope covers the full path from stakeholder need and raw data to dataset, visualization and report delivery. You will query complex relational databases, tune existing SAS and SQL queries, and make recurring reports more efficient to produce. You will also identify opportunities for process improvement and reporting automation, rationalize the reporting portfolio, and support self-service reporting. Close collaboration with internal stakeholders will help turn requirements into documented, usable data solutions.
Your responsibilities
- Develop consistent datasets and reporting solutions from raw, complex data, ensuring outputs are accurate and reusable.
- Analyse complex relational data with Databricks, Python, SQL and SAS to produce insights for business and technical reporting.
- Improve query performance through tuning and optimization of SAS and SQL extraction and analysis.
- Automate recurring reporting and data-analysis processes to reduce manual work and improve delivery consistency.
- Rationalize the reporting portfolio by identifying overlaps, synergies and opportunities to simplify maintenance.
- Translate stakeholder requirements into suitable datasets, dashboards and self-service reporting solutions, and document decisions clearly.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Bring at least five years of experience as a Senior Data Analyst in a reporting environment, with a record of developing datasets and reporting solutions from raw, complex data.
- Demonstrate strong capability in relational database querying and analysis, data visualization, and critical interpretation of information quality.
- Use MS Office 365, Power BI, Databricks, Python, SQL and SAS confidently in a professional reporting context.
- Apply query performance tuning and optimization while maintaining reliable, accurate outputs.
- Combine a structured, analytical and quality-oriented approach with critical thinking and the ability to constructively challenge assumptions.
- Communicate clearly with stakeholders and take initiative to improve processes and support change.
Preferred skills
- Experience in the insurance or financial industry.
- Experience in data modelling.
- Working knowledge of the Azure platform and Microsoft Fabric.
- Experience with change management related to data and reporting.
- Experience with end-to-end requirements management, from elicitation through analysis, validation and documentation.
