A Belgian public sector organisation is building an Azure data architecture for urban services in Brussels, Belgium, within the Brussels-Capital Region, including a digital twin focused on heat islands. As a Data Architect in Brussels, you will design end-to-end flows for IoT, geospatial and BIM data, while contributing to the Azure Data Platform, MDM/EDM repositories and ESB/API integrations. The role combines architecture with hands-on delivery through Azure DevOps and Infrastructure as Code, using Terraform or an equivalent tool to manage platform components.
The mission
The platform combines Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Databricks to ingest, process and expose data. It supports batch and real-time streams from IoT sensors, plus geospatial and BIM sources, creating an Azure Data Platform for digital twins. Lakehouse and medallion architecture patterns, dimensional models and Power BI turn raw data into usable urban insights. The architecture also supports advanced analytics, AI/ML and MLOps.
Your day-to-day scope covers architecture decisions from ingestion to consumption. You will translate business and urban-data needs into secure, maintainable components and integration patterns. You will contribute hands-on to CI/CD for the data platform, working with Azure DevOps and Infrastructure as Code. Your work connects data governance, platform engineering and the analytical use cases delivered to public-sector stakeholders.
Your responsibilities
- Shape end-to-end data architectures for ingestion, real-time processing, storage and consumption.
- Establish MDM/EDM repositories and reliable ESB/API exchange patterns.
- Design IoT data ingestion and processing for digital twins, combining sensor, geospatial and BIM data.
- Automate component lifecycle management through Azure DevOps CI/CD and Terraform.
- Implement Microsoft Purview data governance through cataloguing, lineage, classification and quality controls.
- Secure the platform with RBAC, private endpoints, networking, Key Vault and Azure policies, while enabling Power BI and AI/ML use cases.
