A public healthcare organisation uses national healthcare data to support policy decisions, appropriate care, and medical control. As a Data Engineer, you will develop analytical solutions with the Microsoft BI stack, including data warehouses, data marts, and ingestion pipelines, while supporting the organisation’s transition to Databricks and Python-based data engineering.

The mission

The Data Office brings together data engineers, reporting specialists, data analysts, architects, project managers, data quality experts, and AI specialists. Its work turns Belgian healthcare data into reliable insights used across a public-service environment, with requirements covering data quality, performance, data volume, maintainability, and traceability. The technical landscape includes Visual Studio, SSIS, SSAS, SSMS, SSRS, Power BI, SQL Server, Azure Databricks, and Python.

You will contribute throughout the delivery lifecycle, from data model and warehouse design through development, testing, deployment, documentation, and maintenance. Your work will follow Kimball dimensional modelling principles and established technical standards, with close collaboration with Technical Leads, Data Architects, Project Leaders, and business users in an agile project setting.

Your responsibilities

  • Design and deliver data ingestion pipelines, data warehouses, and data marts that meet functional, performance, and volume requirements.
  • Develop analytical solutions using SSIS, SSAS, SSMS, SQL Server, and related Microsoft BI technologies.
  • Support the adoption of Azure Databricks and Python within the organisation’s data engineering practices.
  • Validate solutions through testing, troubleshooting, prototype reviews, and demonstrations for business users.
  • Create and maintain reports and visualisations in Power BI or SSRS, and explain the underlying data model to users.
  • Document technical solutions and maintain deployed components throughout the project lifecycle.

Your profile

Essential skills

  • At least 7 years of experience as a Data Engineer working with the Microsoft BI stack from a development perspective.
  • Ability to design and implement data warehouses and data marts using Kimball dimensional modelling.
  • Practical expertise with Visual Studio, SSIS, SSAS, SSMS, SQL Server, and SQL-based data development.
  • Capability to work with Python and Databricks in a data engineering context, or to apply these skills as part of the organisation’s transition.
  • Strong data literacy, structured problem-solving skills, and a pragmatic focus on delivery.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership, communicate with technical and business stakeholders, and contribute effectively in an agile team.

Languages

  • Dutch or French: C2, mother-tongue proficiency.
  • The second national language: passive knowledge, with the required CEFR level not specified.

Education

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
