A federal public service is building a controlled environment for responsible artificial intelligence, where data platforms support experimentation, validation and future operational use. As a Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator, you will design, manage and optimise PostgreSQL platforms for traditional applications and AI workloads, including generative AI, retrieval-augmented generation and machine learning.
The mission
The work combines database administration with AI data engineering. You will build a secure, performant and scalable data platform for an experimental environment, while supporting workloads that depend on vector search and large language models.
Your scope covers PostgreSQL platform management, database clusters, monitoring, performance analysis, backup, disaster recovery and business continuity. You will also configure vector databases, support RAG architectures and help translate technical and business needs into practical solutions that keep AI use safe, legal and ethical.
Your responsibilities
- Manage and optimise PostgreSQL platforms supporting traditional applications and AI workloads.
- Install and configure PostgreSQL database clusters.
- Implement replication, clustering and fail-over for high availability.
- Monitor database health, analyse performance and optimise queries and indexes.
- Maintain backups, disaster recovery and business continuity measures.
- Configure pgvector and vector databases for AI workloads.
- Support LLM workloads, RAG architectures and integrations using REST APIs and OpenAPI.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Senior-level capability in PostgreSQL database administration and SQL.
- Knowledge of AI databases, pgvector and vector database concepts.
- Experience with ETL and ELT data engineering practices.
- Experience with replication, clustering and fail-over for high availability.
- Experience integrating REST APIs and OpenAPI.
- Scripting skills with Python and Bash.
- First experience developing applications that integrate AI.
- Careful approach to detail, code quality and AI performance, including latency and scalability.
- Ability to translate business needs into concrete technical solutions.
- Clear communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborative approach with data scientists, architects and DevOps professionals.
- Curiosity about applied AI, continuous improvement and feedback.

Education
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering or AI. Non-traditional backgrounds, including career changes, self-taught experience or open-source work, are welcome when impact can be demonstrated.
