A public safety organisation is decommissioning part of a critical ADABAS/Natural database environment running on BS2000 and making its data available on a new Linux platform. This role focuses on building extraction, transformation and replication components in Natural for Mainframes and ADABAS, while both platforms continue to operate in parallel without disrupting current services. The work covers data movement and validation rather than application migration, and suits a medior ADABAS/Natural mainframe specialist.
The mission
The organisation is modernising a critical data flow from a BS2000 mainframe environment to Linux. Existing records and new data streams must remain available on both platforms during the transition, with reliable synchronisation across data extraction, data replication, data transformation and data reconciliation. The source landscape uses ADABAS for Mainframe BS2000 version 8.2 and Natural for Mainframes BS2000 version 8.2.7 or higher, together with SDF, JCL, EDT and LMS.
Your scope runs from analysing existing programs, jobs, data objects and flows to developing and documenting technical modules. You will help establish parallel operation between BS2000 and Linux without initially changing the feeding processes, then validate source and target data for completeness, accuracy and timing. The role also requires clear mappings, test evidence and corrective actions that other team members can use.
Your responsibilities
- Analyse legacy Natural programs, ADABAS data objects, BS2000 jobs and existing data flows to establish reliable extraction and mapping rules.
- Build and test technical modules for data extraction and data transformation from BS2000 to Linux, preserving required structures and business meaning.
- Establish data replication and synchronisation mechanisms that keep source and target environments aligned while feeding processes remain unchanged initially.
- Reconcile source and target records, detecting omissions, duplicates, mapping errors and transformation defects before data is accepted.
- Design technical test scenarios, record outcomes and coordinate corrective actions across data flows and dependencies.
- Document modules, mappings, assumptions, validation results and technical choices so the transition can be maintained and handed over.

Essential skills
- Apply ADABAS for Mainframe BS2000 version 8.2 knowledge to analyse data structures and existing processing logic.
- Develop and analyse Natural for Mainframes BS2000 version 8.2.7 or higher programs and related data flows.
- Work confidently with BS2000 tooling, including SDF, JCL, EDT and LMS.
- Implement and validate data reconciliation, data replication and data transformation processes between mainframe and Linux environments.
- Interpret incompletely documented legacy applications, identify dependencies and recover the information required to define reliable mappings.
- Work accurately and systematically, with a test-oriented approach to completeness, correctness, timing and synchronisation.
- Document technical analyses, modules, test results, deviations and corrective actions in a structured way.
- Use Office 365 and communicate proactively when information is missing, risks emerge or priorities need to be reassessed.
