A public-sector organisation responsible for child and family services is strengthening its information systems through application maintenance, small development initiatives and quick-win digital projects. As a senior Java developer supporting public services, you will work across Java EE, Spring Boot and Angular applications, maintaining established services while contributing to a new application delivered with a public-sector IT partner.
The mission
The Information Technology Directorate combines application maintenance with targeted functional improvements and short delivery cycles. Its landscape includes enterprise Java applications built with Java EE, Java Servlet, JSP, Hibernate and Spring Data, alongside Angular interfaces and services running on JBoss, WildFly or Tomcat. The wider information-system restructuring focuses on service continuity, improved digital processes and better use of organisational data, using a bimodal approach that covers both reliable existing systems and new digital services.
Your scope covers the full development cycle, from clarifying requirements and designing changes to implementation, testing, deployment and technical documentation. You will work with internal colleagues and the external public-sector IT operator involved in the new application, connecting small releases and application evolution to the broader information-system programme. The role suits a senior developer who can make sound technical decisions in a large organisation and communicate clearly with both technical and functional stakeholders.
Your responsibilities
- Deliver small developments and quick-win features that improve digital services and support operational teams.
- Maintain and evolve existing Java applications, resolving defects while protecting service continuity and data integrity.
- Design and implement backend components, APIs and authentication flows using Java EE, Spring Boot, JSON, JWT, OpenID and LDAP.
- Extend Angular and Java-based user interfaces, using JSP or Vaadin where required by the existing application landscape.
- Improve release confidence through JUnit, Mockito and Cypress tests, code reviews, Postman validation and automated Jenkins pipelines.
- Coordinate source control, environments and releases with Git, Docker and application servers, and keep technical documentation current in Confluence.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Bring senior-level experience delivering and maintaining enterprise applications in a large organisation and public-sector context, with clear communication across technical and functional teams.
- Develop and troubleshoot Java EE / JAEE applications using Java Servlet, JSP, Spring Boot, Spring Data, Hibernate, JSON and JavaScript.
- Build or maintain web interfaces with Angular and Vaadin, and produce reporting outputs with BIRT where required.
- Work confidently with Oracle and PostgreSQL databases, using dbVisualizer or PgAdmin for analysis and administration, and understand integrations involving MinIO.
- Apply Agile Methodology through Scrum or Kanban, using Jira, Confluence and IceScrum to structure delivery and collaboration.
- Create maintainable automated tests with JUnit, Mockito and Cypress, and validate services with Postman and TestLink.
- Use Git or SVN, Docker, Jenkins pipelines, Eclipse or IntelliJ, and deploy or troubleshoot on JBoss, WildFly or Tomcat, including command-line work with PuTTY.
- Navigate structured support and delivery environments using tools such as Mantis, GLPI, TOPdesk and MS Teams.
