A French-speaking digital services organisation in the Belgian public sector is extending a programme that supports child health, prenatal care and vaccination services across Wallonia. This junior Java Angular developer role covers new features and application maintenance across medical-social records, appointment planning and vaccination applications, using Angular 21, Angular Material and Java with Spring Boot. The work includes online and offline use cases for professionals working in the field.
The mission
The programme is modernising several applications used by public-service professionals. One application manages the medical-social record of children from birth to age six, another digitises the social record of expectant mothers, and a third consolidates vaccination data, vaccination records, supply-chain monitoring and decision-support functions. A connected agenda application links appointments to child records and must continue working online, offline or in degraded mode. The technical landscape combines service-oriented Java and Angular applications with Java 8/JEE 7, Java 21, Angular 21, NgRx, DB2, MySQL and Flyway.
You will work in a SCRUM team with developers, functional analysts, testers and a technical lead. Your scope covers full-stack features, corrective and evolutionary maintenance, and the technical design of components within established architecture and standards. You will connect Java backends and Angular interfaces through REST and OpenAPI, while contributing to JPA persistence, automated tests and offline browser capabilities. The assignment is planned from mid-November 2026 through the end of 2027, allowing you to contribute across delivery, maintenance and incremental improvement.
Your responsibilities
- Deliver new features across Java backend services and Angular frontend components.
- Design application components with analysts and the technical lead, while identifying dependencies with existing modules.
- Validate delivered functionality through relevant unit and integration tests and participate in code reviews.
- Improve maintainability and performance through refactoring, library updates and technical debt reduction.
- Prepare, deploy and validate releases across project environments using the defined delivery processes.
- Collaborate in SCRUM ceremonies, communicate technical risks and document changes where needed.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Develop full-stack features with Angular 21 and Spring Boot, using Angular Material on the frontend and Spring with JPA on the backend.
- Build Java REST and OpenAPI services and integrate them with existing application components.
- Work with DB2 and MySQL while applying Flyway migrations safely.
- Implement offline web capabilities with IndexedDB, Dexie and service workers.
- Write meaningful unit and integration tests with JUnit and Mockito.
- Contribute to Docker-based GitLab CI/CD deployments through Maven, Git and Nexus.
- Operate as a junior Java Angular developer in SCRUM, taking feedback in code reviews and communicating technical risks clearly.
