A public-sector social-security organisation maintains a portfolio of interconnected Java and Angular applications that support social-security administration. The role sits in the team responsible for migrating existing front ends from Angular 15 to Angular 22, while keeping the underlying Spring services stable and adding regression coverage for each application.
The mission
The landscape includes Java 11, Java 17 and Java 21+ services, Spring Framework and Spring Boot 2.x and 3, JPA/Hibernate, JMS, RESTful Web Services, Oracle and SQL. Applications run in a complex multi-system environment, with WebLogic and Docker in the delivery landscape. The migration is carried out application by application so that existing business processes remain available and the impact of each technical change is documented.
As a junior front-end developer working as an Angular developer, you will inspect existing code, implement the version upgrade and resolve compatibility issues across the affected applications. You will develop and execute regression testing for Angular migrations, extending test coverage as changes are introduced and recording the evidence needed for sign-off. Your work connects front-end delivery with Java/Spring services, development colleagues and the key users who rely on these applications.
Your responsibilities
- Complete the Angular 15 to Angular 22 migration across the assigned applications, preserving functional behaviour and addressing compatibility issues.
- Build and execute regression testing for Angular migrations, using appropriate unit, integration and end-to-end test methodologies.
- Analyse interactions between Angular screens and Java/Spring, REST, JPA and SQL components to identify and prevent regressions.
- Document code changes, migration decisions, test results and any known impacts for future maintenance.
- Communicate changes and validation results to key users and coordinate feedback with colleagues across the application landscape.
- Support reliable delivery through Git, Maven, NPM, Docker and GitLab CI/CD within an Agile/Scrum way of working.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Bring at least 3 years of professional experience as a Java developer, with the ability to work in complex multi-system environments.
- Have practical experience as an Angular developer, including Angular 17 and Angular 22, and the ability to understand an Angular 15 to Angular 22 migration.
- Maintain Java 11, Java 17 and Java 21+ code using Spring Framework Core, JDBC, Data, Security and AOP, plus Spring Boot 2.x and 3.
- Apply working knowledge of JMS, JPA/Hibernate, RESTful Web Services, Oracle, SQL and WebLogic.
- Use test methodologies and tools such as JUnit, Mockito, Spring Test and Cypress, with an understanding of test-driven development and non-regression testing.
- Work with OpenAPI/Swagger, SOA, Backend-for-Frontend, CQRS, Maven, Docker, OpenShift/Kubernetes, Git/GitLab CI/CD, SonarQube, NPM, OAuth 2.0, Jira and Confluence.
- Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, quickly understand existing codebases, communicate clearly with users and colleagues, and work autonomously with a quality-focused, solution-oriented approach.
