A Belgian public-sector agency is consolidating its application and data landscape as part of the creation of a future migration administration. Working with Brussels-based stakeholders, this 12-month assignment focuses on enterprise architecture, data and services architecture, and the design of a centralized data layer across Microsoft technologies and external information exchanges.
The mission
The agency exchanges information between internal applications, external public-sector sources, and partner organisations, while a significant part of the data is stored in an Azure Data Warehouse. The current landscape includes SharePoint, AD, Power BI, PowerApps, Power Automate, Match-IT, CAAMI, Cumul, and other systems that support operational processes and reporting. The target architecture should make these exchanges easier to govern and enable reporting based on consolidated data.
The Enterprise Architect will establish a clear view of the current and target business, application, and data architecture. You will document applications and data flows, identify dependencies and gaps, and propose a centralized data layer that supports both internal reporting and alignment with a national migration digitalisation programme. Your work will connect tactical design decisions with longer-term architecture across the agency and its external interfaces.
Your responsibilities
- Build an inventory of Microsoft-based and interconnected applications, including their ownership, purpose, dependencies, and current integration patterns.
- Map data flows between internal applications, the data warehouse, external public-sector sources, and partner systems.
- Define the target application and data architecture, including a practical proposal for a centralized data layer using the existing Azure Data Warehouse and Power BI landscape.
- Align business, application, and data architecture with the requirements of the migration digitalisation programme and related initiatives.
- Assess existing architecture documentation, identify gaps, and establish an action plan to bring it to an operational standard.
- Coordinate with software architects, data and analysis stakeholders, application owners, and business representatives to validate findings and support decisions.
