A major Belgian financial institution is developing digital services for business customers through its Channels & Customer Experience enterprise tribe. The Brussels-based team works across enterprise channels and connected systems, using functional analysis, Agile delivery and Scrum to turn business needs into reliable applications. This Expert Functional Analyst role covers requirements, solution design and delivery guidance for APIs, Java-based distributed applications, mainframe programs and data.
The mission
The tribe brings business and IT stakeholders together around customer-facing services used by business clients. Its landscape combines APIs, Java-based distributed applications, mainframe programs, SQL queries and data management, so functional decisions must work across multiple systems and delivery teams. The work supports reliable, compliant digital services and connects new capabilities with established banking technology. The role is based in Brussels, Belgium, within the Brussels-Capital Region technology organisation.
As the senior functional analyst, you will own the functional view from initial need through delivery. You will facilitate complex discussions, compare solution options, define requirements and detailed functional designs, and maintain a shared understanding across the delivery team. During implementation, you will clarify intent for developers and testers, contribute to software testing and help ensure that delivered behaviour matches the business need. You will also connect your work to software lifecycle management and continuous improvement.
Your responsibilities
- Align business and IT stakeholders around clear decisions, priorities and feasible solution options.
- Translate business needs into functional requirements that delivery teams can implement and validate.
- Design detailed functional solutions that fit the target architecture and work across APIs, distributed applications and legacy systems.
- Guide developers and testers throughout the delivery lifecycle by clarifying expected behaviour and resolving functional questions.
- Evaluate software testing approaches and testing tools to support reliable application releases.
- Improve analysis practices, collaboration methods and software lifecycle management through constructive, continuous refinement.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Bring at least 5 years of experience as a Functional Analyst in a complex business and IT environment.
- Apply structured functional analysis to ambiguous or multi-system business requirements.
- Work effectively in an Agile delivery team and apply Scrum values in day-to-day collaboration.
- Facilitate discussions between stakeholders with different priorities, creating alignment and actionable outcomes.
- Communicate clearly with business representatives, developers, testers and architects, while listening actively and explaining trade-offs.
- Take ownership of deliverables, work autonomously and challenge existing practices constructively.
Preferred skills
- Practical knowledge of API design or integration, Java-based distributed applications and mainframe programs.
- Ability to write or understand SQL queries and work with data management topics.
- Experience with software testing, testing tools and quality validation activities.
- Strong experience with software lifecycle management across analysis, delivery, testing and release.
Languages
- English: CEFR C1 or above, with an excellent professional command.
- French: additional knowledge is an asset; no specific CEFR level is defined.
- Dutch: additional knowledge is an asset; no specific CEFR level is defined.
