A Belgian public safety organisation is upgrading its Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), a 24/7 platform used by thousands of police officers for biometric storage, processing and analysis. As a medior F5/Palo Alto network security specialist for ABIS, you will build and operate the security infrastructure around BIG-IP F5, APM, ASM/AWAF and LTM, alongside Palo Alto firewalls, with the work coordinated from Brussels, Belgium.
The mission
ABIS is replacing and upgrading an existing central police system used continuously by thousands of field officers. It stores, processes and analyses biometric data, making availability, controlled connectivity and policy compliance important parts of the infrastructure. The environment combines BIG-IP F5 components, including APM, ASM/AWAF and LTM, with Palo Alto firewall infrastructure, routers, stateful packet inspection and application firewalls. Monitoring and log correlation use Splunk and ELK, while Nessus supports vulnerability assessment; network communication and monitoring interfaces rely on TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS, SSL and SNMP.
You will work in a multidisciplinary team of internal and external specialists responsible for implementing and operating the ABIS infrastructure. Your day-to-day scope includes policy follow-up, infrastructure changes, troubleshooting and project-related tickets, with clear reporting and documentation of your work. You will advise on secure connections between external partners, the intranet and the internet. You will also contribute to the technical response when organised attacks, network intrusions or virus detections affect the environment.
Your responsibilities
- Implement ABIS network security infrastructure using BIG-IP F5, APM, ASM/AWAF, LTM and Palo Alto technologies.
- Enforce and verify security policies across routers, stateful packet inspection firewalls and application firewalls.
- Monitor events and correlate logs with Splunk and ELK, and turn Nessus findings into remediation actions.
- Troubleshoot infrastructure changes and resolve incidents affecting connectivity, availability or secure traffic flows.
- Advise on secure connectivity for external partners, the intranet and the internet, and support incident response when required.
- Resolve project-related tickets within agreed processes and document configurations, interventions and technical decisions.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Medior-level experience operating network security infrastructure, with hands-on capability in BIG-IP F5 APM, ASM/AWAF and LTM.
- Practical knowledge of Palo Alto firewalls, routers, stateful packet inspection and application firewalls.
- Ability to use monitoring and log correlation tools, including Splunk and ELK, and to interpret Nessus results.
- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS, SSL and SNMP.
- Ability to troubleshoot methodically, resolve tickets, assess changing situations and support an effective technical response to security incidents.
- Clear written and verbal communication, autonomy, initiative, teamwork and the discipline to produce accurate reports and documentation.
- A client-oriented, constructive and solution-focused approach to collaboration.
