A Belgian public-sector organisation is carrying out a major business transformation programme covering the hand-over, refactoring and greenfield delivery of business applications. The department is based in Brussels, Belgium, and serves stakeholders across the wider Bruxelles area. As a medior Functional Analyst in a team of about 90 people, you will translate complex business needs into BPMN and UML functional analyses, user stories and validated solutions for development teams.
The mission
The programme combines existing applications requiring hand-over or refactoring with new applications built from the ground up. The application ecosystem includes J2EE, Java 8, Oracle, Hibernate, JUnit, Selenium, Maven, Git and Jira, while APIs, mappings, business models, batches and services shape the technical discussions. You will not code, but you will understand these building blocks well enough to assess functional feasibility and align functional designs with technical specifications. The role supports Agile Scrum business application delivery, with Confluence used for shared analysis and project documentation.
Your scope covers the full project lifecycle, from customer journey and process discovery through requirements, design, delivery and validation. You will analyse existing processes and new functional and non-functional needs, then turn functional needs into software requirements specifications, data models, user stories, test plans and test cases. You will work with business analysts, developers, project managers and partners, keeping decisions and dependencies clear. The work spans changing business contexts, so the role requires structured analysis and the ability to move between subjects without losing stakeholder alignment.
Your responsibilities
- Map and validate current and target processes using BPMN, UML and customer journey analysis, giving stakeholders an agreed functional scope.
- Elicit and structure functional and non-functional requirements, producing software requirements specifications and user stories that guide delivery.
- Translate approved requirements into functional designs and application specifications, resolving APIs, mappings, data models, batches and services with technical colleagues.
- Follow new functionalities and applications from analysis through delivery, surfacing dependencies, risks, open decisions and deviations.
- Align business, project and technical stakeholders on scope, decisions and risks, and report status to project managers.
- Define and document test scenarios, test plans, test cases and project decisions, using Test Analysis & Design and Confluence to support validation and hand-over.
