A Belgian public-sector organisation is modernising the technology supporting critical public-safety information systems. As a senior InterSystems IRIS Dataplatform Administrator / Engineer, you will design and operate a secure, highly available database environment, combining Linux server administration, ObjectScript, Python and automated delivery through GitLab CI/CD and Ansible.
The mission
The Systems Division manages an InterSystems IRIS platform used for operational information systems where availability, data integrity and controlled change are essential. The work covers daily health checks, monitoring, patch management, journaling, mirroring, fail-over testing, data modelling and integration through globals, SQL tables and InterSystems business services, processes and operations. Performance and scalability are addressed through index analysis, query tuning, parallel SQL, ECP cache servers and shard clusters.
You will own the technical design, implementation, testing and documentation of database components across a multidisciplinary team of internal and external specialists. Your work will connect platform operations with application delivery, including backend support in Python, the IRIS Python API, and the implementation or configuration of other DBMS technologies when required. The role contributes to digital transformation within a Belgian public-safety environment, with technical decisions documented for operational continuity and knowledge transfer.
Your responsibilities
- Design and optimise InterSystems IRIS database solutions for microservices and event-driven architectures.
- Configure and operate journaling, mirror sets, fail-over procedures, ECP cache servers and shard clusters.
- Model data using IRIS globals and SQL tables, and configure business services, business processes and business operations, including BPL debugging.
- Improve platform reliability and performance through monitoring, health checks, patch management, index analysis and query tuning.
- Automate container and database deployments with GitLab CI/CD pipelines, Ansible and Linux scripting.
- Support Python backend development, investigate incidents, and maintain clear technical documentation of configurations and decisions.

- Ability to develop and maintain ObjectScript solutions and use the InterSystems IRIS Python API.
- Strong Linux server administration skills, including scripting and operational automation.
- Experience designing databases for microservices or event-driven architectures, with practical knowledge of SQL and NoSQL.
- Capability to build reliable CI/CD automation using GitLab CI/CD pipelines and Ansible deployments.
- Accurate and methodical approach to systems containing critical data, with the autonomy to prioritise work across multiple technical dependencies.
- Clear written and spoken communication skills, including the ability to explain technical analyses and decisions to specialists and user representatives.
Education
- Degree in computer science, information technology or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
