A major Belgian business bank is continuing its Agile transformation across the digital channels serving enterprise clients. This senior Java developer role sits in an enterprise digital banking tribe responsible for web and mobile solutions, with Java and Spring Framework on the backend and React on the frontend. The position is primarily backend-focused, while still providing opportunities to contribute across the full stack.
The mission
The tribe has end-to-end responsibility for digital banking products used by enterprise customers. Its multidisciplinary Agile squads combine business analysis, development, testing, and operations, and work across a mobile application and cloud-based backend services. The platform integrates with external data sources and APIs, making reliable application design and secure delivery important to the wider product.
As a senior IT developer, you will work with internal and external colleagues in a Scrum squad to deliver features from requirements through production. Most of your work will involve Java and Spring Framework development, complemented by RESTful APIs, automated API testing, code quality practices, and DevOps activities such as continuous integration and deployment. You will also contribute to frontend work when this supports the squad's delivery goals.
Your responsibilities
- Translate business and technical requirements into readable, maintainable Java and Spring applications.
- Design and evolve reliable RESTful APIs documented with Swagger in YAML format.
- Deliver tested features across backend services and, where relevant, React-based frontend components.
- Build and improve continuous integration and deployment pipelines using Jenkins or an equivalent tool, with appropriate SAST and quality controls.
- Identify performance bottlenecks, resolve defects, and improve existing code through structured refactoring.
- Strengthen the squad's engineering practices through pairing, knowledge sharing, constructive feedback, and pragmatic challenge of requirements.
Your profile
Essential skills
- At least 6 years of relevant experience as a Java developer or IT developer.
- Capability to develop production applications with Java, Spring Framework, Maven, and database technologies.
- Practical experience designing RESTful APIs with Swagger and YAML, using VCS tools such as Git.
- Understanding of Continuous Integration/Deployment principles and hands-on experience with Jenkins or an alternative.
- Experience with SAST and code quality tools such as SonarQube, Fortify, or NexusIQ, plus Docker, containers, and Groovy.
- Strong application of clean code, object-oriented principles, DDD, design patterns, SOLID principles, and refactoring techniques.
- Practical experience with Test Driven Development, API automation testing, Agile delivery, and Scrum.
- Collaborative working style, willingness to pair, active knowledge sharing, and a focus on continuous squad improvement.
Preferred skills
- Experience with React and broader full stack developer responsibilities.
- Technical knowledge of banking infrastructure and frameworks.
- Previous business experience in banking or another regulated enterprise environment.
Languages
- English: B2 or above.
- French or Dutch: advantageous, with no formal CEFR threshold specified.

- Bachelor's or master's degree in IT or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
