An insurance organisation is extending its Information Systems delivery capacity across a portfolio of non-life insurance applications. This IT Functional Analyst role in insurance focuses on non-life underwriting insurance applications, translating business requirements into functional designs for multi-layer applications and supporting integration testing through delivery.
The mission
The Information Systems department has around 100 people organised across several teams with end-to-end responsibility for insurance-related software development. Core applications are developed on a Microfocus mainframe emulator in Windows, using COBOL, Mix COBOL and .NET, alongside .NET, CRM, printing, integration and communication technologies. The role contributes to a multi-year business roadmap covering the evolution and delivery of these applications.
You will work directly with business stakeholders to clarify needs, define functional solutions and maintain alignment between business expectations and technical implementation. Your scope covers analysis, functional design, test preparation, delivery follow-up and coordination with technical designers and programmers. You will also provide progress information to project leaders and support the implementation of project activities.
Your responsibilities
- Translate business requirements into structured functional solutions that comply with application and delivery standards.
- Develop functional designs and help convert them into clear technical directions for implementation teams.
- Prepare and execute functional integration test cases based on approved requirements.
- Validate delivered functionality, analyse defects and define appropriate corrective actions before user delivery.
- Coordinate technical designers and programmers during the implementation of new or changed functionality.
- Report progress, risks and decisions to managers and project leaders while supporting project delivery.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Bring at least 2 years of experience as an IT Functional Analyst, preferably in a large organisation and in direct contact with business stakeholders.
- Apply practical knowledge of non-life underwriting insurance processes and their supporting applications.
- Analyse and document multi-layer applications, connecting business requirements with functional and technical considerations.
- Work autonomously while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary team.
- Communicate clearly, listen carefully and maintain a client-oriented approach with business and technical stakeholders.
- Work in a structured, methodical and proactive way, with strong analytical skills and attention to quality and detail.
Preferred skills
- Experience with non-life claims insurance or document management.
- Working knowledge of SQL.
- Understanding of project leading principles or experience with the Prince2 methodology.
- Familiarity with test management principles, including TMAP.
- Knowledge of technical analysis and experience with a Microfocus mainframe emulator in Windows.
- Exposure to COBOL, Mix COBOL, .NET or CRM environments.
Languages
- English: B2, good professional proficiency.
- Dutch and French: C1 in one language and basic proficiency, approximately A2, in the other.
Education
- Professional bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, computer science or sciences.
