A Belgian payments and acquiring organisation is reinforcing its first-line KYC/AML/RCT function to manage merchant onboarding and KYC remediation. As a junior Project Support Officer, you will review Medium-Risk and High-Risk merchant files, apply AML/CFT regulations, and support alert investigations using screening tools and client databases.
The mission
The KYC/AML/RCT team operates as the 1st Line of Defense for merchant due diligence in a regulated payments environment. Current work combines onboarding volumes, portfolio recertification and remediation of incomplete KYC files. Reviews cover legal documents, KB extracts, statutes, UBO proofs, business activity and screening results. The role applies AML/CFT regulations in Belgium, including the Belgian Law of 18/09/2017 and EU AML5/6 directives, with cases prepared for the 2nd Line of Defense and Compliance.
You will take ownership of assigned files and alerts from initial review through documentation, follow-up and escalation. You will use screening tools and client databases, including Dow Jones and Salesforce where applicable, to identify missing or inconsistent information. Your analysis will support risk reclassification, structured escalation of suspicious cases and monthly operational reporting. You will work with business teams, internal analysts and Compliance to obtain evidence and close actions.
Your responsibilities
- Assess Medium-Risk and High-Risk merchant onboarding files, identifying inconsistencies in legal documents, business activity and UBO evidence.
- Prepare complete validation sheets for internal committee review, following established KYC/AML procedures and escalation standards.
- Process and classify AML alerts from monitoring systems and external triggers, ensuring cases are logged accurately and consistently.
- Investigate atypical transactions by gathering supporting evidence and drafting clear analysis notes with risk typology, triggers and recommendations.
- Complete KYC remediation and client portfolio recertification by verifying updated data, reclassifying risks and following up on missing documents.
- Improve reporting and working methods through monthly statistics, standardised note templates and High-Risk file checklists.
