A public transport organisation serving Wallonia within the Belgian public transport sector is moving its master data from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA as part of a multi-year transformation programme. As an SAP Master Data migration Lead consultant, you will coordinate a two-person migration team and configure SAP Data Services to extract, transform, validate and prepare data for loading into S/4HANA.
The mission
The programme's SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA migration requires a controlled flow from source extraction through transformation, enrichment and validation to the target staging tables. SAP Data Services provides the integration and processing layer, while the SAP Migration Cockpit staging tables receive the prepared records for loading. The lead consultant defines the target trajectory, assesses functional and technical gaps, and recommends migration architecture, governance and transition options. The work supports a multi-year delivery plan for operations in the Walloon Region, running from September 2026 to March 2029.
You will lead the technical execution of each migration run, from configuring selection criteria and extraction jobs to validating transformed data and preparing it for business approval. The two-person team includes a Migration Consultant who supplies and validates functional mapping rules with the relevant data owners. You will tune processing for the volumes in scope, produce reconciliation outputs in CSV, Excel or Power BI, and document data flows and data transformation rules. The planned lead contribution is 0.5 day per week through December 2026 and one day per week from January 2027.
Your responsibilities
- Define the target migration trajectory and recommend architecture, governance and transition scenarios that address functional, technical and organisational constraints.
- Configure SAP Data Services for migration, including source selection, extraction, mapping, transformation, enrichment, testing and performance optimisation.
- Apply data transformation and validation controls to improve completeness, quality and traceability across each migration run.
- Reconcile extracted, transformed and migrated records through clear CSV, Excel or Power BI outputs for Data Owner approval.
- Populate the SAP Migration Cockpit staging tables with validated data within each planned run.
- Coordinate the Migration Consultant, Workstream Lead, internal SAP teams and stakeholders, escalating critical risks and reporting progress clearly.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Bring a minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience as a SAP Master Data Lead, including concrete SAP master data migration delivery.
- Configure SAP Data Services extraction jobs, selection criteria, mapping, transformation, enrichment, testing and performance optimisation.
- Apply a solid understanding of SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA migration impacts, data dependencies and data quality controls, including staging tables.
- Design target trajectories and migration scenarios by analysing functional, technical and organisational gaps, risks, prerequisites and interfaces.
- Estimate effort for design, build, testing, remediation, conversion and deployment, and use those estimates to support reliable planning.
- Communicate clearly with Data Owners, functional consultants, technical teams, architects and Workstream Leads, while working independently and providing concise progress reports.
- Use analytical problem-solving to identify critical issues early and recommend practical improvements to the migration process.
