This Scrum Master role sits in an IT delivery team that uses agile project delivery to coordinate analysis, development and testing around a shared Sprint Goal. The role exists to make the Scrum methodology work in practice, using agile reporting and follow-up tools while helping the team align automated testing and continuous integration activities.
The mission
The project uses a cross-functional agile team in which analysis, development and testing capabilities contribute to the same Sprint Goal. Scrum ceremonies, the Product Backlog, Definition of Done, Sprint Backlog, capacity and velocity metrics create the working structure for planning and delivery. The Scrum Master connects these practices with the software development methodology and project management methodology used by the project, alongside automated unit testing and automated functional testing with continuous integration tooling, so stakeholders have a clear view of progress and impediments.
As Scrum Master for a cross-functional agile team, you will be the day-to-day reference for the project team, Product Owner and relevant stakeholders. You will organise and facilitate Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Sprint Reviews, Retrospectives and other meetings, while monitoring adherence to the agreed agile methodology. Your scope includes coaching the team towards self-organisation, removing barriers, protecting focus, supporting backlog and Definition of Done discussions, and reporting on project follow-up. You will also contribute to risk and issue management and promote practical continuous improvement beyond individual sprints.
Your responsibilities
- Facilitate Scrum ceremonies and stakeholder meetings, creating clear decisions, actions and feedback loops for each sprint.
- Maintain the delivery cadence by scheduling key events, tracking Sprint Backlog progress and keeping the Definition of Done visible.
- Coach and challenge the team and Product Owner, improving self-organisation, collaboration and practical use of agile methodology.
- Remove impediments and protect the team from internal or external distractions, allowing members to focus on Sprint Goals.
- Support capacity and velocity tracking, turning delivery data into useful planning and follow-up information.
- Report on methodology adoption, progress, risks and issues, giving project leadership a reliable view of delivery.
