A public water organisation operating in Belgium's wastewater sector is improving the operating processes of a wastewater treatment plant through predictive models and AI-supported decision-making. As a Senior AI Strategy and Development Consultant, you will provide AI business analysis, AI functional analysis, and guidance on implementing artificial intelligence tools in an industrial production environment. The role combines a strategic assessment with training and hands-on support for industrial data preparation and AI tools for wastewater treatment operations.
The mission
The assignment starts with a 20-working-day assessment delivered at one day per week. You will compare generative AI, machine learning, predictive models, and neural networks, and assess their relevance to wastewater treatment operations. The resulting report will recommend technically and economically suitable options, with implementation scenarios covering schedule, budget, resources, and delivery either internally or through specialist providers.
If the selected solution proceeds, the conditional training and coaching phase spans 220 working days at a cadence of half a day every two weeks. You will build practical capability in industrial data preparation, data quality, model configuration, and interpretation, including how to formalise requirements in a specification or procurement brief. A further conditional 20 working days will support concrete cases such as predictive models for wastewater treatment, energy-performance optimisation, malfunction anticipation, and operating decisions.
Your responsibilities
- Assess operational needs and compare AI approaches against technical feasibility, economic value, implementation requirements, and model limitations.
- Deliver a structured report covering suitable solutions, implementation roadmaps, budgets, resources, and internal or outsourced delivery models.
- Translate wastewater treatment and operational requirements into clear AI business analysis, AI functional analysis, specifications, or procurement briefs.
- Define the industrial data preparation, structuring, quality, and exploitation practices required for reliable predictive models.
- Train and coach operational stakeholders on configuring AI tools, interpreting results, and applying AI-supported decision-making in production.
- Validate model outputs, explain uncertainty, and improve performance through adjustments to parameters, input data, or modelling methods.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Bring senior-level experience as an AI consultant, covering strategy, business analysis, functional analysis, and production implementation of AI decision support.
- Evaluate artificial intelligence approaches, including generative AI, machine learning, predictive models, and neural networks.
- Apply expert knowledge of industrial data preparation for reliable model development, including data structuring, quality, and exploitation.
- Formalise operational needs into clear requirements for specialist AI vendors, technology providers, or system integrators.
- Configure AI tools, interpret model results, assess uncertainty, and explain their practical limitations to operational and non-specialist stakeholders.
- Support the implementation of AI decision support in an industrial production environment, with a focus on wastewater treatment, energy performance, and operational continuity.
