A Belgian federal police service uses specialised technical and tactical capabilities to support judicial investigations involving serious organised crime and terrorist or extremist activity. Within its national technical and tactical support unit, this Senior Business Analyst and Solution Architect role connects operational stakeholders with IT, development, infrastructure and telecom teams working on critical applications and telecommunications interception systems, with BPMN and IP data communication central to the analysis and design work.
The mission
The unit prepares discreet equipment deployments and supports real-time telecommunications interception through a dedicated technical interception facility. Its applications and infrastructure integrate telecom platforms, databases, middleware, APIs and external systems, so architecture decisions must account for security, auditability, availability and operational constraints. The role covers the full Software Development Life Cycle, from feasibility and target-state design through testing, deployment and operational improvement.
You will analyse business needs, model AS-IS and TO-BE processes, and turn them into functional requirements and end-to-end solution designs. You will work with product owners, network engineers, developers, DevOps, infrastructure specialists and telecom experts to assess options, document trade-offs and guide implementation. The position combines stakeholder management with hands-on understanding of application code structures, data models, integration mechanisms and technologies such as mobile networks, VoIP, SIP and IMS.
Your responsibilities
- Define application architecture, data architecture and integration architecture for new and existing telecom and business solutions.
- Translate operational needs into functional specifications, non-functional requirements, BPMN process models and actionable technical designs.
- Evaluate architectural alternatives, technologies and Proofs of Concept, clearly documenting feasibility, risks, trade-offs and long-term implications.
- Guide development, testing and deployment teams, helping deliver stable, secure and maintainable applications through the full SDLC.
- Maintain architecture diagrams, integration flows, sequence diagrams, test plans, procedures and user-facing documentation.

- Understand APIs, cloud platforms, microservices, SQL and NoSQL databases, authentication, CI/CD and event-driven architectures.
- Assess non-functional requirements covering performance, availability, scalability, security, resilience, maintainability and auditability.
- Apply practical knowledge of mobile networks, including 2G/3G/4G/5G, as well as VoIP, SIP, IMS and IP data communication.
- Communicate architectural options clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, while working independently in a multilingual team.
- Hold a TOP SECRET security clearance, as required for work in this sensitive operational environment.
