A Belgian public healthcare data initiative is bringing together existing data solutions from national health institutions and mutualities into a shared cloud platform. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will develop data quality and integration components using Azure Databricks, Python, SQL Server and REST API services, supporting a single source of truth for health-related information in Belgium.

The mission

The programme is creating a common data platform for Belgian healthcare organisations, with Azure Databricks as the central technology. Its main components include a master data hub connected to multiple referentials, a data validation engine for external sources, and services that support data exchange, configuration and integration. The work combines application development, data engineering, Master Data Management (MDM) and DevOps practices, including CI/CD.

You will work across the full delivery lifecycle, from functional analysis and solution design to development, testing, deployment and maintenance. Your work will connect data teams, functional analysts, the data architect and project leadership, ensuring that shared health data is correctly integrated, validated and documented. The role also includes reviewing prototypes, demonstrating solutions and supporting users.

Your responsibilities

  • Design and deliver a data hub that connects master data and referential sources, including CRUD operations and data transformation capabilities.
  • Build and maintain REST API interfaces and connector services for data exchange, validation, configuration and platform integration.
  • Develop data validation solutions that identify quality issues in data received from different external sources.
  • Analyse data requirements and translate functional needs into robust data engineering solutions using Azure Databricks, Python and SQL Server.
  • Test, troubleshoot, deploy and maintain the platform components, while producing clear technical documentation.
  • Review prototypes, demonstrate delivered functionality and provide practical guidance to users and project stakeholders.

Your profile

Essential skills

  • Bring at least 7 years of experience as a Data Engineer working with the Microsoft BI stack, including SQL Server and development tools such as Visual Studio and SSIS.
  • Apply strong data engineering and data quality practices to integration, validation and platform development work.
  • Develop solutions with Azure Databricks and Python, and understand how cloud data platforms support analytics and operational data services.
  • Analyse data requirements and convert functional needs into maintainable technical designs.
  • Work effectively with REST API services and data integration interfaces.
  • Take ownership of deliverables, solve problems pragmatically and collaborate with technical and functional stakeholders in an agile project setting.

Languages

  • Dutch: native proficiency or equivalent to CEFR level C2.
  • French: native proficiency or equivalent to CEFR level C2.
  • The other national language: passive knowledge is required.

Education

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
