A major Belgian financial institution is developing and improving credit initiatives used by advisors and credit analysts. This Senior Product Owner role covers credit products and customer journey concepts, translating business needs into clear requirements for developers while accounting for technical constraints and regulatory requirements.
The mission
The role sits in an Agile delivery model based on Scrum methodology within the regulated financial sector in Belgium. You will work with a Scrum Master, Development Team, other Product Owners and a Release Manager, and coordinate with IT Architecture, Legal, Compliance, Risk Management and Global Security. The initiatives connect customer and stakeholder feedback with operational priorities such as shorter processing times, lower error rates and compliant credit processes. Decisions and product changes must remain traceable for governance and audit purposes.
Your scope runs from ideation and refinement through incremental delivery and adoption. You will own the Product Backlog for the initiative, make priorities explicit, and turn features and user stories into work the developers can implement. You will lead technical discussions without taking over the development role, ensuring that business expectations reflect technical constraints. The results will be measured through operational data and user feedback, then used to guide subsequent product increments.
Your responsibilities
- Define objectives and incremental deliveries for credit initiatives, connecting customer journey improvements to business outcomes.
- Prioritise the Product Backlog using business value, customer feedback, processing impact, regulatory requirements and technical feasibility.
- Translate business needs into clear requirements for developers and define features and user stories with measurable acceptance criteria.
- Lead technical discussions with developers and stakeholders so constraints, dependencies and implementation choices are understood before delivery.
- Coordinate backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint reviews and other Agile ceremonies with the Scrum Master, maintaining delivery quality and stakeholder alignment.
- Measure impact through processing time, error rates and user satisfaction, then document decisions and support end-user adoption through demos, training and progress communication.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Bring at least 5 years of relevant experience in a senior Product Owner role or a comparable product leadership position.
- Apply customer journey concepts to credit products and processes, with a clear view of customer and operational needs.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of credit products and processes, including the ability to assess business impact.
- Translate business needs into clear requirements for developers and participate confidently in technical discussions.
- Lead delivery in partnership with a Scrum Master, manage stakeholders across business, risk and legal, and negotiate priorities when interests differ.
- Integrate technical constraints into product decisions while keeping a strategic, analytical and structured approach.
- Show leadership, attention to detail, quality focus, goal orientation and openness to change.
Preferred skills
- Experience using Scrum methodology in a Product Owner role.
- Practical experience managing a Product Backlog and facilitating Agile ceremonies.
- Ability to define features and user stories with measurable acceptance criteria.
- Experience embedding regulatory and legal requirements from the design stage.

- Dutch: fluent, CEFR C1 or higher.
- French: fluent, CEFR C1 or higher.
- English: sound knowledge, CEFR B2 or higher.
Education
- Master's degree or equivalent experience demonstrated through a relevant professional track record.
