A major Belgian insurance organisation is modernising the backend systems supporting its Non-Life business. As Senior Technical Lead, IS Non-Life Distributed Backend, you will guide .NET backend delivery, including APIs and background worker processes, while coordinating Azure Integration Services and technical initiatives across several development teams.
The mission
The IS Non-Life Distributed Backend team supports backend delivery projects, technical transformation and transversal initiatives across the organisation's Non-Life information systems. Its technical landscape combines .NET and Entity Framework applications with Azure Integration Services, Azure Messaging, Azure Active Directory and integrations between on-premise and cloud systems. This work supports the reliability, performance, compliance and lifecycle management of applications used in a critical insurance domain.
Your scope will cover both technical leadership and hands-on contribution. You will act as a technical point of contact for cross-team integrations, application framework upgrades and migration initiatives, while working with architects, analysts, project leaders and developers to define practical solutions. You will also organise knowledge-sharing workshops, support performance improvement and ensure that technical decisions, delivery risks and progress are communicated clearly.
Your responsibilities
- Lead technical initiatives and coordinate solutions across the Non-Life development teams, architects and delivery stakeholders.
- Define reliable integration patterns for .NET applications, Azure services, messaging components and on-premise to cloud connections.
- Improve application performance, lifecycle management, compliance and development processes across critical assets.
- Review code and promote maintainable C# solutions, shared packages, engineering standards and consistent code best practices.
- Coach junior and medior developers through technical guidance, workshops and structured support on Azure and backend development.
- Document transversal processes and technical decisions, report progress to management and follow up on issues affecting project delivery.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Bring at least 8 years of professional experience in .NET backend development, including APIs and background worker processes.
- Bring at least 3 years of experience with Azure Integration Services and practical knowledge of Azure Messaging and Azure Active Directory.
- Design and develop solutions with .NET C#, Entity Framework and relevant IT platforms.
- Lead technical workshops for developers and analysts, write clear technical documentation and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Apply sound judgement in code reviews, performance optimisation, process improvement and delivery projects.
- Work autonomously, prioritise effectively, take ownership and collaborate across teams in a pragmatic and diplomatic way.
- Use Microsoft Office tools, including Word and Excel, for documentation, reporting and project follow-up.
Preferred skills
- Experience with client data or insurance processes.
- Experience with .NET Core and migrations of .NET applications to recent versions, including .NET 6 through .NET 8 or later.
Languages
- English: C1 spoken and reading, B2 written.
- Dutch: A1 minimum, with higher proficiency advantageous.
- French: A1 minimum, with higher proficiency advantageous.
