A public-sector organisation serving Brussels in Belgium is building an Azure data architecture for municipal services, including a Digital Twin focused on urban heat islands. As a mid-level Data Architect, you will design end-to-end ingestion, real-time processing and governance for IoT, geospatial and BIM data, while supporting Azure DevOps and Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or an equivalent tool.
The mission
The data platform combines Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Databricks with Microsoft Purview and Power BI. It supports ELT and ETL pipelines, lakehouse and medallion architecture, dimensional models, and data exchange through ESB/API patterns. The Digital Twin work brings together sensor, geospatial and BIM data to model urban heat islands and support better analysis of city services. The architecture must also accommodate advanced analytics, AI/ML and MLOps within a governed cloud platform.
You will translate business and urban data needs into an end-to-end architecture covering ingestion, processing, storage, serving and visualisation. Your scope includes reference data architecture using MDM/EDM, integration design, data modelling and the definition of reusable platform components. You will contribute hands-on to CI/CD in Azure DevOps and manage the lifecycle of components through Terraform-based IaC. You will work with data, platform and project stakeholders so that the Digital Twin initiative can use reliable, traceable and secure data.
Your responsibilities
- Define data architecture patterns for sensor, geospatial and BIM data across ingestion, real-time processing and analytical consumption.
- Design MDM/EDM repositories and ESB/API exchanges to improve consistency and interoperability of reference and operational data.
- Build CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps and codify platform infrastructure with Terraform or equivalent IaC.
- Establish Purview cataloguing, lineage, classification and data-quality practices that make datasets discoverable and traceable.
- Integrate AI/ML workloads, MLOps and Power BI consumption paths into governed analytical services.
- Apply Azure security controls, including RBAC, private endpoints, networking, Key Vault and policies.
Your profile
Essential skills
