A federal public-sector organisation is operating a central CI/CD ecosystem that supports software teams delivering services for pension administration. The System Engineer Build role is a Build and Release Engineer position within the Build & Release team, focused on managing and modernising build, release and deployment processes with Jenkins, Nexus Repository, Git, Digital.ai Release and Digital.ai Deploy.
The mission
The Build & Release team owns the central CI/CD ecosystem used by development teams across the organisation. The current landscape combines Jenkins for CI and build automation, Git for source code management, Nexus Repository for artifact repository management, and Digital.ai Release and Digital.ai Deploy, formerly XL Release and XL Deploy, for release and deployment management. The role contributes to modernising and standardising this chain while integrating quality gates, security scanning and CI/CD governance.
Your scope covers day-to-day platform operations as well as the design and maintenance of build, release and deployment pipelines. You will troubleshoot complex delivery failures, support development teams with CI/CD issues, and automate repetitive activities through scripting. Improvements should result in more reliable releases, fewer manual steps and clearer controls across the software delivery process.
Your responsibilities
- Operate and optimise the central CI/CD ecosystem, keeping Jenkins, Nexus Repository, Digital.ai Release and Digital.ai Deploy dependable for development teams.
- Design and maintain build, release and deployment pipelines that connect source control, artifact handling, quality gates and security checks.
- Investigate and resolve complex build and deployment failures, replacing recurring manual workarounds with durable fixes.
- Modernise and standardise software delivery processes across teams through CI/CD governance and continuous improvement.
- Automate repetitive delivery and support activities with Bash, PowerShell and/or Python.
- Document technical procedures, support developers and strengthen team capability through knowledge sharing and coaching.
