A federal public safety organisation is building a controlled, secure environment for developing, testing and validating AI applications. As a Senior System and Infrastructure Engineer, you will install and operate Red Hat OpenShift 4 platforms with Kubernetes, supporting containerised AI workloads across datacentre infrastructure.
The mission
The organisation is developing a responsible approach to AI, with governance, security and compliance considered before applications are used more widely. The controlled environment allows teams to experiment, test and validate applications before potential deployment across the organisation. Its purpose is to support safe, lawful and ethical AI use for operational and support activities. It supports microservice-based applications in Docker-style Linux containers.
Your work covers the integration and continuous improvement of Linux server environments across internal and external systems. This includes central infrastructure and technical systems hosted in datacentres. As a senior engineer, you will align system objectives with organisational needs, coordinate specialists according to available resources, and document standards and procedures for technical change. You will administer OpenShift, keep containers operating reliably, automate routine administration, maintenance and monitoring with Ansible, and use platform data to guide performance improvements, capacity planning, upgrades and architectural decisions. The role supports secure replacement of existing tools and technologies as the organisation modernises its systems.
Your responsibilities
- Install, deploy and troubleshoot Red Hat OpenShift 4 environments in datacentres.
- Manage Linux containers and Kubernetes orchestration for AI applications.
- Automate administration, maintenance and monitoring tasks with Ansible.
- Monitor OpenShift platforms, containers and orchestrators using Prometheus and Kibana.
- Analyse usage and performance trends, then define appropriate actions.
- Plan and coordinate capacity extensions and updates, including major releases, following supplier recommendations.
- Validate platform architecture and define technical standards and procedures.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Senior-level experience installing, deploying and troubleshooting OpenShift 4 and later.
- Experience managing Linux containers and Kubernetes orchestration.
- Experience hosting AI applications in containerised microservice environments.
- Ansible automation for administration, maintenance and monitoring.
- Knowledge of OpenLDAP and Samba.
- User-level knowledge of Microsoft O365 products.
- Experience with Microsoft Windows 10 and 11 Enterprise.
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server 8.
- Knowledge of Linux backup and restoration solutions, such as Commvault.
- Knowledge of Linux virtualisation solutions, including Red Hat Virtualization, KVM and VMware.
- Experience monitoring OpenShift platforms, containers and orchestrators with solutions such as Prometheus and Kibana.
- Ability to coordinate specialists, align system and organisational objectives, and document technical work.
