System & Infrastructure Engineer Zabbix (Junior)

A public-sector IT organisation provides shared infrastructure and digital services to public administrations. This infrastructure monitoring role centres on Zabbix, Elasticsearch and the integration of operational tools, connecting technical signals with service availability and impact.

The mission

Zabbix is the core monitoring platform in a distributed environment of servers and proxies, with high availability requirements. You maintain dashboards, network maps, reusable templates and collection through Zabbix Agent, SNMP, JMX, HTTP Agent and external checks. You configure macros, dependent triggers and low-level discovery to improve collection and reduce noisy alerts.

You also model business services in Zabbix Services, linking hosts and triggers to hierarchical service trees. Configure problem tags and state propagation, then use availability data and SLA/SLO reports to show service impact. Combine metrics, logs and events to support incident diagnosis and improve observability across infrastructure, network and application components.

The scope also includes monitoring websites with Oh Dear or an equivalent tool, handling monitoring tickets and requests in ServiceNow, and maintaining integrations between tools. You produce monthly availability and performance reports, identify recurring incidents and automate checks, data processing and reporting through APIs and scripts.

Your responsibilities

• Administer Zabbix dashboards, network maps, items, triggers, templates, macros and discovery rules.
• Model end-to-end business services and track availability against SLA/SLO targets.
• Diagnose noisy alerts, collection failures and cross-layer incidents with technical teams.
• Monitor website availability, SSL certificates, performance and web anomalies using Oh Dear or an equivalent tool.
• Qualify monitoring incidents and requests in ServiceNow, documenting actions through closure.
• Build REST API integrations and Python or Bash automation for checks, data processing and reports.
• Analyse recurring incidents, report trends and maintain operational dashboards and documentation.

Your profile

Essential skills

• Medior-level experience administering Zabbix, including dashboards, maps, triggers, templates, items, macros and LLD.
• Experience with Zabbix Services, service trees, problem tags, state propagation and availability reporting.
• Elasticsearch skills for indexing, querying and working with log and metric data.
• REST API integration skills, including authentication, Bearer tokens, pagination and webhooks.
• Understanding of ESB and service-oriented integration, including APIs, webhooks, JSON/XML and integration buses.
• Strong networking knowledge: SNMP v2/v3, syslog, NetFlow, TCP/IP, routing, VLANs and firewalls.
• Ability to diagnose connectivity and collection issues involving ACL, ACI, SD-WAN and VPN.
• Python and/or Bash skills for monitoring checks, diagnostic scripts, LLD discovery and recurring tasks.
• ServiceNow skills for incident and ticket management, with familiarity with CMDB concepts.

Preferred skills

• Experience automating monitoring workflows, including auto-remediation, reporting and integrations between tools.
• Oh Dear experience or familiarity with an equivalent website monitoring tool.
• Familiarity with Git, CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible or Terraform.
