A Belgian public sector digital programme supports public administrations in Brussels and across Belgium. This junior full stack developer role contributes to critical public sector digital services, working on Java 11 and Java 17 applications, Angular 17 interfaces, REST APIs and Spring Boot components within a delivery team.
The mission
The programme supports digital transformation across Belgian public administrations, including organisations in the Brussels-Capital Region. Its teams build and maintain interoperable, secure and scalable services for information exchange between organisations. The landscape combines existing enterprise applications with new shared services and integrations to internal and external systems. Java, Spring, JPA, JMS, Oracle, WebLogic and Docker are part of the stated environment.
You will work alongside another developer in a delivery team responsible for developing, integrating and evolving business applications. Your day-to-day scope covers Java and Angular full stack development, API implementation, database-backed services and maintenance of existing code. You will contribute to technical discussions with technical leads and solution architects, while taking part in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and stakeholder meetings. The result is software that meets functional requirements as well as security, performance, interoperability and quality standards.
Your responsibilities
- Build and maintain business applications and shared digital services using Java 11/17, Spring and Spring Boot 2.x/3.
- Develop Angular 17 components and connect them to REST APIs and web services used by internal and external systems.
- Implement integration flows with JMS, JPA and Oracle SQL, while maintaining clear service and data contracts.
- Apply test methodologies to improve reliability, including unit and integration tests and support for quality assurance activities.
- Contribute to code reviews, technical documentation, deployments, monitoring and continuous improvement within the delivery team.
- Coordinate with developers, architects and stakeholders to deliver increments through Agile/Scrum and respect applicable security and performance standards.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Bring at least 3 years of professional experience in Java software development.
- Develop and maintain backend components with Java 11 and Java 17, Spring Framework and Spring Boot 2.x/3.
- Build frontend features with Angular 17 and integrate them with REST services.
- Work practically with JMS, JPA, Oracle, SQL, Docker and WebLogic in a multi-system environment.
- Apply structured test methodologies and quality practices, and understand how to maintain existing codebases safely.
- Analyse requirements, communicate clearly with multidisciplinary teams, and work autonomously while staying attentive to security, performance and quality.
