A Belgian public-sector technology organisation develops and maintains digital services for child health, prenatal support and vaccination programmes in French-speaking Belgium, including Wallonia. Within this junior Java and Angular developer role, you will contribute to DOMES, Prénatal and e-VAX applications used by public-service professionals, working with Angular 21, Java, REST/OpenAPI, DB2 and MySQL. The role combines new feature development with corrective and evolutionary maintenance across Java and Angular applications for child and family health.
The mission
The programme brings together several applications supporting professionals who manage medical-social follow-up and appointments for children from birth to age six. DOMES V2 handles child records, consultations and appointment planning, while DOMES V1 and the Agenda application require ongoing corrective and evolutionary maintenance, including offline use for field work. Prénatal V1 digitises social records for expectant mothers, and e-VAX 2.0 modernises vaccination data, cross-service vaccination records and supply-chain monitoring. The service-oriented technical landscape combines Java 8/JEE 7 and Java 21, Spring Boot, JPA, Angular 21, NgRx, DB2, MySQL, Flyway, Apache Maven, GitLab CI/CD, Docker and Nexus.
Your scope covers technical design, implementation, testing, deployment and maintenance across the application landscape. As a Java developer, you will implement backend and frontend changes, assess dependencies with existing components, and deliver code that meets the defined architecture and quality standards. Within the SCRUM delivery model, you will collaborate with functional analysts, testers, developers and technical leads, raise technical dependencies early, and contribute to code reviews. The programme is planned from mid-November 2026 through the end of 2027, with work distributed between project delivery and application maintenance.
Your responsibilities
- Deliver backend Java and frontend Angular features for records, appointments, prenatal follow-up and vaccination workflows.
- Evolve existing modules, correcting defects and improving functionality without disrupting operational services.
- Design technical components with analysts and technical leads, identifying dependencies before implementation.
- Verify functionality through unit and integration tests, with JUnit and Mockito, and maintain appropriate coverage.
- Prepare releases across environments, validate deployments, and follow the project’s CI/CD and delivery standards.
- Improve maintainability through refactoring, code reviews, documentation and targeted library or framework updates.
