A Belgian financial institution is extending its anti-money laundering (AML) monitoring framework, including the development and review of detection scenarios based on its risk typology catalogue. This senior Technical Analyst role manages the existing Netreveal Scenario Manager and uses SAS Enterprise Guide and SQL to test, implement, and monitor scenarios with the AML Framework team. It suits a senior technical analyst with AML monitoring experience who can connect risk analysis to production-ready detection logic.
The mission
Within the Belgian financial sector, the compliance IT team maintains the AML monitoring tool and adapts it to new and emerging financial security risks. The work follows the AML Framework and its Risk Typology Catalogue, which defines relevant red flags and monitoring expectations. Additional scenarios must be designed when existing controls do not sufficiently address an identified risk. Scenario logic is assessed through historical data simulations before approval and release.
Day to day, the analyst owns AML detection scenario development from initial risk interpretation through simulation, configuration, testing, and production deployment. They work with a Business Analyst and the AML Framework team to validate results and refine scenario effectiveness. The role also covers audit-trail documentation, committee material, change management for L1 and L2 teams, and post-release analysis of alert volumes and relevancy rates.
Your responsibilities
- Translate AML risk analysis into detection scenarios aligned with defined red flags and monitoring objectives.
- Develop SAS scripts and run historical data simulations to test scenario logic and refine thresholds.
- Configure Netreveal Scenario Manager scenarios or implement SAS-based detection scripts, including Netreveal Scenario Manager configurations for production.
- Validate changes in the test environment and deploy approved configurations or scripts to production.
- Maintain the development audit trail and support presentations for the AML/CTF TM Framework Committee.
- Analyse alert volumes and relevancy rates after release, coordinating change and aftercare activities with L1 and L2 teams.
Your profile
Essential skills
- Bring at least 5 years of relevant experience in technical analysis, IT development, or integration work.
- Apply several years of AML domain knowledge to scenario design, testing, and alert review.
- Configure and maintain Netreveal, mainly Scenario Manager, across the scenario lifecycle.
- Develop and test scripts with SAS Enterprise Guide and SQL using historical data.
- Use SAP Business Objects for reporting and analytical support.
- Work rigorously and methodically, communicate clearly, and adapt quickly across analysis, development, and testing activities.
Preferred skills
- Use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to prepare documentation and committee material.
- Apply an Agile Way of Working and contribute beyond the primary analyst role when team delivery requires it.
