Own the UI experience that shapes how citizens and colleagues interact with core services. As Technical Lead UI UIX Team you'll blend hands-on UX design with front-end engineering (React, Lit) to evolve a shared Web Components library from our Brussels hub in Belgium.

Role Overview

Join a compact, cross-functional UI/UX department where your technical decisions will scale across multiple development teams. You will coach a three-person team, set the bar for accessibility (WCAG) compliance, and design user experiences using the department's design system — an excellent career move for a leader who wants visible impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coach a three-person UI/UX team, setting technical direction, reviewing designs and mentoring junior colleagues.
  • Maintain and grow the shared Web Components library to improve reuse, performance and developer experience across teams.
  • Support and guide development teams adopting the component library, offering patterns, documentation and hands-on assistance.
  • Ensure products meet WCAG accessibility standards and local legal obligations through reviews and accessibility testing.
  • Design UX flows and UI patterns for new applications using the design system, balancing usability, consistency and maintainability.
  • Oversee upgrades, quality controls and documentation to keep the design system production-ready and easy to consume.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrable experience with modern front-end frameworks and component-based development (React, Lit, Vue or Angular).
  • 5+ years of experience combining UX design responsibility with hands-on technical leadership across multiple projects.
  • Proven experience working in a Scrum environment and collaborating with product owners and engineering teams.
  • Strong background in building and governing Web Components, design systems and UI libraries shared across teams.
  • Practical knowledge of WCAG accessibility guidelines and experience implementing accessibility best practices.

What We Offer

Permanent position with an on-site expectation: be present at least 2 days per week at the Herman Teirlinckgebouw in Brussels; the remaining days may be worked remotely. The site is well connected by public transport and offers facilities for cyclists (secure parking, showers, lockers) and a parking garage for motorists. You’ll own visible, cross-team impact by shaping the design system, lead and mentor a small high-performing team, and help raise accessibility and UX standards across the department. This role is with our client, a leading public-sector organisation in Belgium focused on delivering modern, accessible digital services.

It takes under a minute to apply. Your email, your CV. That is all we need to start the conversation.
