As a senior UX Designer in Brussels, you will support a digital services organisation that designs and maintains user-facing applications and websites for users in Belgium and the wider Brussels-Capital Region. The role focuses on continuous development of a shared design system, combining user research, mobile-first prototyping in Figma and Axure, and WCAG 2.1 accessibility practices to help delivery teams create consistent interfaces.
The mission
The UX work covers the full path from needs analysis to implementation support. You will build an understanding of users and their environment, select research methods, and use interviews, surveys, focus groups, and usability tests to clarify application requirements. The design system contains components, patterns, and guidelines that need to stay consistent, accessible, documented, and current. Low- and high-fidelity interfaces are developed through a mobile-first approach and assessed against accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1.
Your day-to-day scope connects design decisions with delivery by working alongside analysts and developers. You will help recruit research participants, propose appropriate solutions, and support teams as designs move into developed applications. You will also contribute to the design, management, and maintenance of the design system, helping teams apply its components and guidance correctly. Regular communication with clients and project colleagues ensures that user requirements and design rationale remain clear throughout the work.
Your responsibilities
- Maintain and evolve the design system so its components, patterns, and guidelines remain consistent, accessible, current, and practical for delivery teams.
- Plan user research and recruit suitable participants to produce reliable insight into user needs and working environments.
- Translate research findings and business requirements into clear interface concepts and interaction designs.
- Design low- and high-fidelity, mobile-first prototypes that give analysts, developers, and stakeholders a concrete basis for decisions.
- Guide analysts and developers during implementation, checking that delivered interfaces reflect user requirements and approved UX/UI standards.
- Communicate design choices and accessibility considerations clearly with clients and project teams throughout delivery.
